Document Delivery & Interlibrary Loan

Use Document Delivery for items in print format if you are an online student or faculty member.

Use Interlibrary Loan for items that are not available through the library’s regular collections.

These services are free for all members of the VLGS community.

Online Students and Faculty

Search the library catalog for the book or journal you need. Use the journal or book title, not the article or chapter title.

A library staff member scans pages from a book.
If we have the physical title and you want to read the entire item, send a document delivery request with the citation, including the title, author and call number. We will review your request and let you know if we can send it via our materials-by-mail service. Review the Document Delivery & ILL Policies for details on the types of items that can be requested through the mail.

If we have the physical item and you only need a single article or chapter, request a PDF via document delivery. Include the complete citation information.

If we do not own or subscribe to the book or journal you need, place an interlibrary loan request for the chapter or article. (Due to lending restrictions from partner libraries, we are unable to mail ILL books to off-campus addresses.)

Residential Students and Faculty

Search the library catalog for the book or journal you need. Use the journal or book title, not the article or chapter title.

If we have the physical item and you want to borrow it, come to the library to check it out; ask at the desk if you need help locating an item in the stacks. You can also use the scanners and photocopiers in the library to save a portion of the document for personal study, subject to U.S. Copyright Law 17 U.S.C. § 108.

If we do not own or subscribe to the book or journal you need, place an interlibrary loan request for the book, chapter, or article.
